Notes from DaVic Gallery – Qavavau Manumie delivers a quiet, ethereal vision with Dog Team Spirit. Drawn on deep midnight blue paper, the composition uses fine white pencil and ink lines to evoke the glowing atmosphere of an Arctic night.
In the distance, a dog sled team moves steadily across frozen waters, framed by low mountain ridges and scattered ice floes. Manumie’s delicate white linework creates a striking contrast against the dark paper, giving the impression of moonlight reflecting off snow and ice. The wide, open composition captures the silence, scale, and enduring spirit of traditional Arctic travel.
This original work highlights Manumie’s mastery of subtle line and space, offering a peaceful yet captivating piece for collectors of contemporary Cape Dorset art.
The blank sheet of letter‑size (8 1/2 x 11 in) paper covering part of the image in the scale reference picture is provided for size comparison, offering an immediate sense of the drawing’s scale and presence.
