Untitled (Family Day) by Shuvinai Ashoona – Inuit Art from Cape Dorset 2023 original hand drawing collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.
Condition: No condition noted. It is common that original drawings will show minor handling marks and probably stains caused by the artist themselves. It is also common to see, particularly with Shuvinai’s drawings, uneven paper trimming. This drawing has unfinished drawing in the back too.
Description by Artist: No description by artist found.
Notes from DaVic Gallery: Colourful and friendly drawing of a family of five walking down the street. Everyone except for the mother seem to be enjoying the time together. The mother carries two babies in her amauti, perhaps they are twin siblings, and that would likely explain the mother’s tiredness. The daughter that walks ahead of the family appears to be at least 8 years older than the little twins that peacefully rest and sleep in mom’s warm amauti. The dad lovingly protects his family stretching his arms over his wife with the twin brothers and over his daughter’s shoulder.
The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
