Notes from DaVic Gallery:   “Formidable Foes” by Kananginak Pootoogook – Largest land carnivore hunts the largest seal. The walrus measuring up to 14 ft long and weighing up to 4000 lbs with 2 very large ivory tusks measuring up to 4 ft long.  Walrus has a thick skin up to 3 inch and 4 inches of blubber making difficult for the bear to penetrate with its teeth.  Polar bear weighing up to 1500 lbs, stands up to 12 ft. tall. The bear’s canine teeth can be up to 3 inch long and very sharp.  The bear has a 3 inch thick skin with 4.5 inch of blubber, but the bear’s skin is not armored and stands exposed to the walrus tusks.  In a fight, the bear must keep the walrus on land and avoid at all costs the walrus’ tusks. In the water, the walrus holds big lead and stands greater chance to kill the bear.
