Description

‘Kudloopudlooallook (Sea Monster)’ by Jessie Oonark, RCA, OC – Inuit Art – Baker Lake 1970 print collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition:          No condition noted.

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:   This print is titled and numbered in the back of the print (see picture # 5) while signed and stamped in the front as usual (Picture #4).  Also, while this print is titled, “Kudloopudlooallook” in the back, it is catalogued as “Kudloopudlooaluk”.

I was unable to find reference to such monster in Inuit Legends with the name of Kudloopudlooallook, although there is a sea monster named Qalupalik that parents would use to tell their children to keep them away from moving too close to the sea shore or Qalupalik would take them to the bottom of the sea.

Reference Picture # 3 for comparison with letter size paper
