Description

“Memories of the Hunt” by Lizzie Saggiak – Inuit Art – Cape Dorset 1966 print collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition:          No condition to be noted.

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:   This print is issued with Cape Dorset 2002 Spring collection from the archives of Dorset Fine Arts.  However, it was first issued as a Dorset Series print and titled, “Bear with Hunter” in Toronto Dominion Bank catalogue.

Raw depiction of a hunter killing a bear with arrow and bow … this image is rather static giving the impression the bear is already fatally hurt by the first arrow and the hunter prepares for the kill with a second shot.  However, it is difficult not to imagine such frightful fight for life with the bear clearly much larger that could easily overpower the hunter had he missed the first shot.
