Merman Back in the Water
‘Merman Back in the Water’ by Jim Oskineegish – First Nations Woodland Art presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts
Condition: No condition to report.
Description by Artist: This painting is based on a dream I had nearly a decade ago. There was a man who lived amongst the Anishnawbe People and one day he simply went into the water and swam away. This spirit came to me in my dream. I asked for guidance from an elder and he told me that this being did exist. This spirit is a very powerful spirit who is present in all waterways. I tried using minimal colours and a portrait like feeling to the painting. – Jim Oskineegish
