Notes from DaVic Gallery:  Sold out print from the 2021 Cape Dorset print collection and for good reason it was one of our collector’s favorites.  As many of Ning’s compositions this image leaves us with much to think about trying to understand what story she is trying to share with us through this composition.  Though I don’t know exactly what this story is about, the story of the owl that married a goose comes to mind where the owl lands on water with its new goose spouse and unable to swim drowns.  Is this maybe a variation of the story where now the owl knows not to marry a water bird but cannot stop dreaming about it?  That’s all this owl is left with, a dream.

The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
