‘Qaumajaq (Fly)’ by Saimaiyu Akesuk – Inuit Art – Cape Dorset 2014 print collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.
Condition: No condition noted.
Description by Artist: No description by artist found.
Notes from DaVic Gallery: ok, yes, this is a refreshing change from Saimaiyu’s subject and composition that I would not have guessed this design was to her merit. Strong bold colours, as usual, and large, full page composition of a fly with large head, large eyes, large yellow wings that stand out and become the main focus of this print. It’s vertically well balanced and with energetic stonecut lines. Lovely print. However, don’t let the loveliness of this print fool you because flies and mosquitoes can be a dangerous and most frustrating swarming predator in the arctic.
