Description

‘Spirits’ by Lucy Qinnuayuak – Inuit Art – Cape Dorset 1968 print collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition:          Good condition – Beautifully restored for tape removal and flattening.  A line of iron inclusions in paper remain faintly visible along the three left bird heads when seen close.  Picture # 4 shows these spots zoomed in and picture # 5 shows the same from the back of the paper.  Print is in very good condition otherwise.  Price reflects this condition.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:     Lucy Qinnuayuak was prolific and drew many different subjects, but surely it is for her whimsical birds that she is best remembered. This print may not appear so whimsical after all with more spiritual representation of one single animal with similar opposing heads and feet that seem to be trying to break apart from eachother.  At the same time three more friendly looking bird heads begin to emerge from the animal’s back.   It seems as if floating in the air.  Very intriguing design for sure.

Reference picture # 3 for size comparison with letter size paper.
