Notes from DaVic Gallery:   This is a 1965 print design released with Caper Dorset 1966 print collection.  Pudlo’s ‘Spirits‘ is in his personal tradition and represents a uniquely Eskimo way of expression.  The two dogs in the foreground are “seeing the spirits”, a common occurrence in the dark of a winter night.  We see what the dogs see through the eyes of a man who knows well both spirits and dogs.  Pudlo’s bold interpretation from ‘Thoughts of Walrus’, 1961, ‘Eagle Carrying Man’, 1963, and now ‘Spirits’, make the world of imagination significant, if not entirely real. – from Eskimo Graphic Art 1966, Cape Dorset 1966 print catalog.
