Description
Untitled (The Worlds Above) by Shuvinai Ashoona – Inuit Art from Cape Dorset 2022 original hand drawing collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.
Condition: Misaligned paper trim. Light smudge by the artist center of the drawing. Note that it is common also that original drawings will show minor handling marks and probably stains caused by the artist themselves. It is also common to see, particularly with Shuvinai’s drawings, uneven paper trimming.
Description by Artist: No description by artist found.
Notes from DaVic Gallery: This is a very large triptych on a single large paper as medium. The triptych depicts three separate and similar stories of a man, a child and a woman holding, pushing or receiving a number of planet earth looking worlds and all of the worlds depicting a form of life in them. A worlds-filled fingers of a hand reaching down to a man, then a pair of hands handing down six planets to a child where one of the worlds lives a mother and her babies cozy in her amauiti, another world shows buildings and houses; lastly, the red-haired girl holds a world with bees in it. Note that each of the segments are individually signed by Shuvinai Ashoona. Enjoy!
The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
