‘Training Young Hunters’ by Hannah Kigusiuq – Inuit Art – Baker Lake 1978 print collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:   Kigusiuq draws inspiration for her art from her own experiences living on the land as a young woman, and she typically depicts communal activities from traditional Inuit lifestyle. A large number of men and children gather to practice hunting techniques on a young muskox.  A couple of dogs also learn to collaborate with the hunters to control and corner the animal. Some of the young hunters are crying, perhaps they still feel the compassion for the animal about to be killed.  Very similar to today’s digital age where we cannot stomach the sight of an animal being killed but we are happy to eat it.
