Description

“Water Baby and Sea Dog” by Eegyvudluk Ragee – Inuit Art – Cape Dorset 1961 print collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.  Framing recommended for display.

Condition:          Professionally restored for heavy discoloration and framer tape markings. Fading condition of the paper did not permit for full and even restoration and matburn marking remains with overall paper fading in the area exposed by mat window.  Some tape marking remain top edge verso for the heavy tape used previously that penetrated the paper.  Unidentified pen markings bottom edge of paper.  Overall image is successfully restored and remaining condition can be covered with framing mat.

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:   This is a very rare and interesting print by Eegyvudluk (Egevadluq) with two aquatic figures playing deep in the water.  Both creatures have flippers. The first bottom figure gas body of a seal and head of a dog, while the second figure on top is that of a young seal pup with the face of a boy.  Both show to eachother their sharp teeth so if not playing, they are perhaps fighting?
