Description

Owl’ by Art Thompson – First Nations Northwest Coast Nuu-chah-nulth Art presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition: no condition noted.

Description by Artist: “This Owl design  was first printed on a drum. It was commissioned by a First Nations woman from Whitehorse, in the Yukon. Snowy owls, a protected species in some areas, are a common sight in the North. This owl is depicted in mid-flight with eyes raised upwards towards the sky. As owls are nocturnal creatures this is night-flight, with a starry sky depicted in the background, Art Thompson’s unique style continues to evolve in new and interesting directions with this design.”

Notes from DaVic Gallery: This Limited Edition silkscreen prints titled “Owl” by Art Thompson was published in November, 1996. It was hand produced by the screen-printing process. It is the only limited edition printing of this design. The artist was involved in the printmaking, checking the stencils and signing each copy in the edition: 100 signed and numbered copies, 10 artist’s proofs, 10 Remarque’s and 1 printer’s proof. 3 Hors de Commerce copies exist and are defaced and all other trial copies have been destroyed and the printing stencils obliterated.
