Description

Proud Walrus’ by Pudlo Pudlat – Inuit Art – Cape Dorset 1963 presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition:          Very Good condition – professionally restored for handling marks in paper. There is a faint ink smudge lower right corner of the paper.

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:   Highly collectible and sought after 1963 print design by Pudlo Pudlat that was not made available to the public until 2002 with Dorset Fine Arts Sprint collection.  Similar to ‘Running Rabbit’ and ‘Eskimo Woman with Ulu’, we see again Pudlo’s effective use of negative space leaving interior spaces of his works white to stand out in a brilliant contrast.  It is very possible, specially because of the year it was produced, that the stencil might have be sealskin stencil.  Another unusual observation about this print release is that the edition is of 40.

The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
