Notes from DaVic Gallery:  ‘Traveling by Nightfall’  –  As beautiful and romantic we may imagine life in the arctic is, every activity is surrounded by both nature beauties with its own circle of life dangers.  A deadly encounter is imminent as the dog sled will converge with the polar bear.  In the case the traveler gives chase and hunt, polar bears are skillful in navigating thin ice for escaping.  A sledge at full speed in the dark cannot stop quick enough to avoid thin ice patches where travelers and hunters have disappeared without being heard of again and a theory is that they sank and went through thin ice with dogs, sledge and hunter.   Great use of negative space to represent snowy fields.  In the darkness blue shapes stand out as ice peaks that can sometimes form overnight as floating ice meets and crashes with ground ice.  Black frame with either black and golden-brown as or black with blue double matting would work nicely.
