Description
Untitled (ABC) by Shuvinai Ashoona – Inuit Art from Cape Dorset 2022 original hand drawing collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.
Condition: No condition noted. It is common that original drawings will show minor handling marks and probably stains caused by the artist themselves. It is also common to see, particularly with Shuvinai’s drawings, uneven paper trimming.
Description by Artist: No description by artist found.
Notes from DaVic Gallery: Three groups of peoples, one, the tallest, two, medium size with the mother carrying a child in the hood of her amauti, and three, the smallest in size. It is not easy to imagine whether the different sizes is an attempt to indicate distance perspective, but if it is then the farther person is the tallest, so maybe it is not an indication of distance perspective. They sit on a rocky hill and of all the landscape only three beautiful and colourful flowers next to the group of smallest people. No, wait, there are two more smaller flowers I missed before next to the three flowers. Also, except for the tallest man, all appear to be looking in the same direction, including the baby in the woman’s amauti.
One cannot miss the big ABC letters in the middle of the composition.
The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
