‘Allure’ by Rande Cook, 2018 – First Nations Northwest Coast Kwakwaka’wakw Artist presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.
Condition: No condition noted.
Description by Artist: Breaking from tradition this abstract fun piece draws your eye towards overlapping colours and line work not traditionally seen in Northwest Coast art. By adding a rectangle element within the image, it creates a story: The box of light and its many gifts are spread throughout the world bringing joy. Rande is known for pushing the boundaries with traditional classical formline, here he breaks the form completely as the Kwakwaka’wakw were more traditionally known to do, but in his own unique way.
Notes from DaVic Gallery: Wonderful well-balanced composition that goes nicely side-by-side with ‘Soulful Spark’. Interestingly this painting was initially titled ‘The Things that Split Us’.
