Description
Untitled (Cutting Seals) by Shuvinai Ashoona – Inuit Art from Cape Dorset 2007 original hand drawing collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.
Condition: No condition noted. It is common that original drawings will show minor handling marks and probably stains caused by the artist themselves. It is also common to see, particularly with Shuvinai’s drawings, uneven paper trimming.
Description by Artist: No description by artist found.
Notes from DaVic Gallery: This fortunate and skilled hunter brings home at least two seals to share with the community. Some cuts are already in bags to be distributed. He has help from a woman holding her ulu. Note how one of the rocks under the hunter has the shape of a green heart. Sharing hunt is common practice, it’s like saving food in other people’s stomachs because when this hunter is not so lucky, him and his family will still be fed by other hunters catch.
The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
