Description

Untitled (Going Out) by Shuvinai Ashoona – Inuit Art from Cape Dorset 2005 original hand drawing collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition:          mild crease along top margin.   It is common that original drawings will show minor handling marks and probably stains caused by the artist themselves.  It is also common to see, particularly with Shuvinai’s drawings, uneven paper trimming.

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:    This is surely an endearing composition of a mother carrying her child in the back of her amauti, just stepping out their house probably going out to see a neighbor or shopping or just a walk.  The child looks calmly sleeping with his arm extended and with the wave like undulations visible inside the hood of the amauti, the child looks as if floating on water.  I just realize as I observe this composition that now that I think about it, I have not seen many compositions by Shuvina, of a woman with her face tattooed.

The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
