Red Skies’ by Ningeokuluk Teevee – Inuit Art from Cape Dorset 2022 original hand drawing collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.


Condition:          Very Good condition.  Repaired paper tear visible back of the paper lower right. See photo.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:   This is another very interesting drawing by Ningeokuluk Teevee and what I find most puzzling is associating the title given, Red Skies, to the Sedna with baby inside a fish composition of the drawing.  It would be immediately obvious that the red background is what Ning is perhaps referring to by Red Skies, however, this is a background that is not uncommon to see in many of her works.  With this, it makes it the more interesting what the relationship of the composition to the title could be.  Red Skies is also known as an old adage, “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning”.   Nonetheless, this is a very dynamic legend story telling composition sure to make a collector proud to own and display.

The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
