Description

‘Tentacles’ by Shuvinai Ashoona – Inuit Art – Cape Dorset 2018 print collection by Dorset Fine Arts, presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition:          No condition to be noted.

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:    surrealistic print depicting an octopus with a multitude of tentacles dragging and carrying or being held by two planets tied to its body with ropes around its body.  Bubbles surround the scene indicating being underwater.  A ring of eyes in the shape of human faces of different skin colour circle the octupus’ head.  One of the planets has strong presence of green areas indicating land as well as some water bodies, while the other planet shows mostly a large water body overtaking the land bodies.  This perhaps is an allusion to global warming showing the most of the plane being covered by the melting arctic ice.  The octopus as well as the watching eyes in the shape of human faces are held in strong dependency unable to break away to what happens to either of the two planets.

I think this piece will be a favourite for collectors.
