Description

Untitled (Fish) by Luke Anguhadluq – Inuit Art – Baker Lake c. 1972 original drawing presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.

Condition:          Overall good condition. Paper trimmed by hand prior to drawing.

Provenance: Feheley Fine Arts; Jack and Sheila Butler Collection

Description by Artist:     No description by artist found.

Notes from DaVic Gallery:    This is most likely and arctic char drawn entirely in graphite pencil even though in 1972 Luke was already comfortable drawing in color and his style more refined.   He puts more emphasis in the fins and mouth.  Interesting that Luke’s signature is upside-down to the orientation of the fish.  Unless, he intended to demonstrate this is a caught fish laying on the floor before being cut.
