Description
Untitled (At the Co-Op) by Shuvinai Ashoona – Inuit Art from Cape Dorset 2023 original hand drawing collection presented by DaVic Gallery of Native Canadian Arts.
Condition: Good Condition – paper creases along upper middle of left edge of paper. This is mostly visible on the back of the paper as front is covered by the image.
It is common that original drawings will show minor handling marks and probably stains caused by the artist themselves. It is also common to see, particularly with Shuvinai’s drawings, uneven paper trimming.
Description by Artist: No description by artist found.
Notes from DaVic Gallery: In this drawing we see three people, artists or collectors perhaps showing their art. Same as the overall drawing, the drawing of the king on the left side comes with both Shuvinai’s and Padloo’s signatures. The woman in the middle holds what unmistakably seems to be a dancing bear by Pauta Saila. Then the woman on the right holds a drawing of a bear and its reflection on the water that is signed by Quvianaqtuk Pudlat. Then the lizard creature on the easel is signed by Padloo Samayualie. We see Shuvina’s name also on the wall.
This composition is a collaboration between Shuvinai Ashoona and Padloo Samayualie. Seems to me that this composition is the creation of Shuvinai and one can identify the most careful and delineated colouring of the faces, clothing and objects that form part of the composition to be Padloo’s contribution as it is common to see Shuvinai’s colouring a bit more scratchy.
The blank sheet of letter-size (8.5” x 11”) paper covering part of the image in the last picture is for size reference.
